D-Day Walk

On these D-Day walks we hope to describe life in Milton and Eastney between the world wars based on the experiences of one of our former residents who was born in the area in 1921, and then show how everything changed in the build-up to and after D-Day. To view a brief video on YouTube about the walk, click below:

We have two walks – a long one, that takes in all of the sights possible and a shorter one, in which we tell the same story but walk only half the distance, so you will need to use your imagination rather than your legs for parts of this one.

The Long Milton & Eastney D Day Walk

Length: 4 miles

Duration: 2 hours

The walk is not circular – but it is a 10 minute walk from the end point back to the start (or 2 stops on the local bus service). The route is wheelchair accessible and the terrain is largely tarmac, though there is a short stretch across Milton Common from the foreshore to Moorings Way which can get wet and muddy.

The Short Milton & Eastney D Day Walk

Length: 3 miles

Duration: 1.5 hours

The walk is not circular – but it is a 10 minute walk from the end point back to the start (or 2 stops on the local bus service). The route is wheelchair accessible and the terrain is largely tarmac.

Attending A Walk

Please book a place on the walk of your choice at Milton Village Hall (details below). Walks will be leisurely so should be suitable for all, unless we get a specific ‘walking group’ in which case we will go at their pace.

Walk Dates

Places are limited on our walks as we want to ensure that everyone can hear the story, so if you wish to join us, do book a place.

If you are a group and want to request a dedicated walk or want to suggest a different date or time to those shown here – please let Milton Village Hall know of your interest.

Places can be booked in person at Milton Village Hall or by phoning them (023 9287 3788 ) or by email (miltonvillagehall@gmail.com)
